Tugit Hoists

Tugit hoists is a brand of puller hoists previously manufactured by Lift-Tech International, which Columbus McKinnon Corporation acquired in 1995.  At its peak, more than 1,000 people worked at Lift-Tech International, a quiet company in Muskegon Heights that built some of the most sophisticated industrial hoists and cranes in the world.  In June 2010, Columbus McKinnon closed the Muskegon Heights plant, which had operated for more than 120 years.

Tugit hoists were precision-built spur geared type hoists, especially designed for close quarter lifting, pulling and positioning the load.  The hoist operated by a handle instead of the usual hand chain.  The hoist was a versatile tool and would perform any number of load handling jobs when operated properly.  The last model of Tugit hoists came in 4 capacities: 1 1/2 ton, 3 ton, 4 1/2 ton and 6 ton.  The 1 ½ ton and 3 ton capacity Tugit hoists had the same hoist body and differed only in hook size and chain reeving.  Tugit hoists were made with an aluminum alloy frame, load chains of welded link type of special calibrated pitch and heat heated alloy steel, hooks of forged steel and designed to open slowly when overloaded.  The redline version of the Tugit was equipped with a load regulator designed to help guard against excessive overloads and redline hoists may be identified by their red vinyl handle and by the name plate.

The Tugit lever operated hoist manual is still available and can be found by clicking here: Tugit hoist manual.

The Tugit hoist was discontinued by Columbus McKinnon Corporation and is no longer available.  Common alternatives include the Budgit lever hoist, the CM hand chain hoist and the CM lever hoist. For information on alternatives by the manufacturer, please visit Hoists Direct’s page on CM Hand Chain and Lever Hoists.
